BMW E30 318i LUX CONVERTIBLE
VERY LOW MILEage – CONSISTENTLY ATTENTIVE MAINTENANCE
Being the Lux edition this attractive E30 benefits from the following. Electric convertible roof, four electric windows, power door mirrors, interior map light, cigarette lighter, full leather seats, clock, leather rim steering wheel and gear selector, BMW Bavaria C Reverse RDS radio cassette player (with Mp3 and Aux connections, not as yet tested/checked).
As displayed by our on location images, the wonderful Alpine White, Code 146, absolutely gleams in the sunlight.
All panels look straight with no evidence of scratches or the ubiquitous car park damage.
We could find no areas of obvious corrosion anywhere around the body or chassis. Bumpers and rubbers are in good condition, with all lenses crack free.
A small amount of gravel rash will be detected upon very close scrutiny, low down at the front spoiler. However it is virtually of no consequence nor does it detract in any way.
There is only one small mark we could locate, on the bonnet, adjacent to the BMW badge.
The roof has no marks or tares, is taught, with a clear rear screen.
The dashboard is complete, no nasty holes from previous “projects” or any cracking caused by sun damage. All instruments operate as intended including Econometer.
Carpets, door cars and roof lining are again in an extremely good condition.
The use of quality leather to all seating, elevates the cabin and remains totally intact with no signs of any excessive wear. Steering wheel and gear selector likewise.
The electric roof and all four windows operate reliably. Radio is currently untested, however fully expected to work successfully.
WHEELS & TYRES
All five lattice 15”inch alloys have benefitted from a recent quality refurbishment and look new.
Centre caps also match. The four matching road tyres are all Goodyear Eagle F1, 205/55ZR15 with a generous amount of tread.
SERVICE HISTORY & PROVENANCE
Four long term owners have invested heavily in the up-keep of their prized possession. Two of which were registered keepers for 10 years, one being a lady owner.
There is evidence of a consistent maintenance regime which, along with all MOT certificates from the first in 1996 (21,449 miles), can substantiate the very low mileage, reassuring to have.
The last service was carried out very recently by Woodcote Racing Classics on the Goodwood circuit (07/03/2019) at 60,098, just 41 miles ago.
Previously, NBA Sports in Dunsfold Park, at 59,689 miles did a major service to include Camshaft Drive/Timing Belt, new battery, oil+plugs etc at a cost of £1765.00p.
There is historic evidence of a further two Cambelt changes, and a clutch master cylinder. Further consumables such as brakes and clutch, replaced as required.
Approx sixteen service stamps, including the important running-in service, many from Main Agents, are entered in the service book. While historic documents and invoices date back to early 90’s from both BMW Altwood and Cooper Reading.
Complete, original owners book pack and wallet, together with two keys.
THE DRIVE & ENGINE
As you would expect from such a well maintained vehicle, starting is swift and efficient, settling to a stable idle with no excessive smoke or hesitation.
The lively four pot M40B18 is a 1796cc version of M40 engine, with Bosch Motronic fuel-injection, producing a capable 113 bhp delivered to the rear wheels. Coupled to the 5 speed Getrag 240 gear box.
This is not an out and out sports car, more a quality GT Tourer, however, performance seems spirited enough, and with the roof down and neatly stowed away, it is certainly a glorious place to experience the country roads in.
There is no scuttle-shake or torsional instabilities due to the heavy duty, sill strengthening visible on entry.
Steering, suspension and braking are all ideally suited to the chassis set-up, progress can be comfortably arrested by a light application of the middle pedal.
With low running costs, and excellent mpg, by comparison with its larger capacity cousins, it would be hard to travel so elegantly and look so cool this Spring/Summer for less, surely?
