Heralded as a design masterpiece, instantly and globally recognised, the classic wedge shape with large front and rear spoilers and Quattro flank graphics. This example is finished in the original factory colour of Alpine White P1, the iconic 1980’s profile and silhouette remain evocative of the era when Audi dominated motorsport. Innovative and stylish while remaining totally functional; designed to complete one simpler task, which the Audi Quattro performed with impunity. The slender black front grill, adorned with the manufacturers prestigious four interlocking chrome rings. The bodywork presents to a very high standard, with the majority of original panels, having been treated and preserved with Zeibart from new, so we are told, evidence of the wax-oil solution still seen around areas of the engine bay. Unable to identify any areas or corrosion during our pre-inspection, the Quattro has appeared to either evade deterioration or been repaired to a very high standard.

The black leather upholstery is virtually unmarked, having only a very slight patina, totally in keeping with the age and mileage covered, no scratches or unsightly tares worthy of mention. The seats can be adjusted manually. The lighter coloured headlining and black door cards also present to a high standard, while the dashboard and top have thankfully avoided any cracking. The gear selector and gaiter is clad in black leather, but the dominant feature of the interior is the wonderful electronic digital dashboard with turbo boost pressure display, a total marvel to all drivers of a “certain age”! Manual diff-lock panel sits below the, period correct, Alpine radio/cassette in the centre console. Original Air Call CP16M cellular radio/phone. Electrically adjustable door mirrors, power windows and radio aerial, with all equipment functioned as it should during our inspection and test drive. A set of black over-mats have protected the floor carpets from any excessive wear. Original supplier Whitehouse of Bexley rear window sticker.

Powered by the legendary exhaust driven turbo charged and intercooled Audi 2144cc fuel injected 5 cylinder 10v cast iron engine. With pressed steel sump and light alloy cylinder head, developing 200 bhp @ 5500 rpm and delivering drive to all four wheels via a synchronised 5 speed manual gearbox and hydraulically operated single plate dry clutch. Front wheels are driven direct, rears via a prop-shaft, with lockable differentials in the centre and rear axle diffs. Front and rear independent suspension is provided by McPherson struts with coil springs, while steering is hydraulic variable power assisted rack and pinion. ABS and permanent all wheel drive. In comparison to similar engine sized two wheel drive competitors, Audi claim 2.25 times more traction on ice and up to 1.66 times more on wet or gravel roads, as the 1982 Manufacturers World Rally Championship, the 1983 Rally Drivers World Championship and the 1984 Manufacturers World Rally Championship, plus numerous other sporting accolades can attest. Performance is still impressive, even by today’s standards, Audi claim a top speed of 138 mph and 0-62 dash in 7.1 secs. This example has be afforded the utmost attentive care by the last enthusiast owner and subsequently now drives extremely well ,providing the character and sense of occasion only a true motoring icon and legend can supply.
