With roof up or down the Pininfarina designed 360 Spider is still as beautifully arresting today as it was twenty years ago. Originally unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2000, low, sleek and desirable from any angle, the feature side air intakes also perform a practical function, directing cooling airflow to the restricted engine compartment. The Rosso Corsa paintwork retains a consistent depth of shine belying the age and mileage covered by the 360. All surfaces remain in a remarkable condition, with no gravel-rash, imperfections or minor car park dents worthy of mention; PPE has been applied to common vulnerable low areas. This example further benefits from very desirable upgrades including the front and rear Challenge Stradale grills, which set this Spider apart from others on offer. Scuderia wing shields, the classic chrome Ferrari script across the rear upper panel, and chrome ‘Prancing Horse’ affirm the enviable pedigree. Thankfully, the black convertible roof would appear to be the Ferrari original, and as such, does have a few areas of wear, although we are told, there is no water ingress, we also experienced very little wind noise during our test drive.
Nero leather Daytona seats, evoke a timeless link to historic Ferraris of the past. A classic and desirable option, having aged remarkably well with just the correct degree of patination, evident in our photographs. The Nero leather theme extends to the dashboard and door-cards; all exposed stitching intact with no cracks or shrinkage evident. Red floor carpets remain in a good condition with no heavily worn or marked areas. As tested, all electric operated successfully, the roof mechanism, while laboured by today’s standard does operate effectively and as it should. Twin cargo nets placed behind both seats plus door panniers, offer additional stowage space. Switches do not appear sticky, a very common Ferrari failing.

THE DRIVE & ENGINE
Rear wheel drive, rear mid-mounted 3586 cc 90-degree 40v, V8, DOHC, with flat-plane crankshaft and titanium con rods, revving to a red line max around 8700 rpm and developing approx 400bhp and 275 lb ft of torque. This is coupled to a 6 speed F1 single clutch Graziano automated manual transmission enabling a claimed 0-60 mph in 4.5 secs, and a claimed top speed of 180+ mph. 5460 F1 Spiders produced between 1999 and 2004. Even with the added strengthening and bracing required to stabilise the Spider, weight gain is still minimal over the Modena, increasing by only a mere 60kgs and only coming in at a mere 1390 kgs. This example benefits from the Challenge Stradale software upgrade, generally considered to enhance gear selection. A fuel tank capacity of 95 litres will please those considering more adventurous journeys, which can be completed in relative comfort. According to some sources, only 513 Spiders were produced between 1999 and 2004 for the UK market, although opinions do seem to vary on this. What is beyond question though, is that when fortunate enough to glimpse one on the road, roof down, V8 on display through glass panel, and the high pitch howl emitting from the chrome quad tail-pipes, you are instantly reminded of what a strikingly beautiful design the 360 Spider was and still is today.
