THE DRIVE & ENGINE
The naturally aspirated 65 degree V12 with a displacement of 6266cc, produces a mammoth 730 hp at 8250 rpm. Enough to propel this 1791kg F12 to 211 mph, with a claimed 0-62 time of 3.1 seconds. Capable of reaching 124 in 8.4 seconds.
Voted International Performance Engine of The Year in 2013, and overall Supercar of the year 2012 by Top Gear Magazine.
Not surprising, when the Fiorano Test Circuit was dismissed in 1 min 23 secs, a full 2 secs faster than the Enzo, and even 1 sec faster than its highly regarded predecessor the 599 GTO.
The Aluminium space-frame chassis boasts 20% more rigidity, with a weight reduction of 70kgs over the outgoing 599 model.
Then draped in the elegantly sculpted body, designed by Ferrari Styling Centre and Pininfarina, the bonnet Aero Bridge channels air flow along both flanks increasing down force to 123kgs at 124 mph, an increase of 76%. Achieving a miraculous drag co-efficient of just 0.299, with virtually perfect weight distribution of 48% front 52% rear.
Active brake cooling ducts reduce heat, operating automatically when required.
The seven speed, dual clutch, semi-automatic transmission, has shortened gear ratios to help exploit the increased power on tap
Third generation CCM3 carbon ceramic brakes with ABS help to dissipate speed with ease.
The HELE stop-start system aides fuel economy, returning around 18 mpg.
The Ferrari F12 Berlinetta must be considered a truly spectacular Supercar.
