EXTERIOR

Striking an impressive stance, the Bowler presents to a very high standard, finished in factory Santorini Black Metallic. Bodywork is extremely good, thankfully with little evidence of any stone chips, gravel rash or minor imperfections as usually found on vehicles of this age and mileage. The louvered wing vents, front mounted twin Lazer ST4 four gang LED spot lights, custom build pierced front bumper and side sills, 18”inch Bowler alloys, red chassis tow eyes, plus extensive Bowler badging, not only enhance the urban appeal, but also hint at this vehicles intentions and capabilities.  The spare wheel and tyre are carried within the load space.

INTERIOR

All interior surfaces and equipment remains in excellent condition, heated seats are still extremely supportive and virtually unmarked. The door cars and floor covering, which have been protected from new by heavy duty rubber floor mats, have avoided being damaged in any way. An Alcantara headlining, with courtesy light, provides a touch of luxury to the utility theme of the interior, although power windows, air conditioning and reverse camera incorporated into the rear view mirror, are all very welcome additions.

THE DRIVE & ENGINE

Instantly recognisable, the iconic Land Rover Defender has been a virtually unaltered permanent feature on the rural UK landscape for nearly 40 years, and able to trace its underpinnings back even further. Now more refined, the 5th and final incarnation the L316, this 90 XS model is powered by the, Euro V-Compliant, 2.2 Ford derived direct injection Duratorq TDCi, ZSD-422 engine, and now incorporates a diesel particulate filter, which, to avoid damage when off-road, is cleverly housed in the engine bay. The standard unit develops around 122bhp @ 3500 rpm, with 266 lb/ft and 351 Nm of torque @ 2000 rpm. However our vehicle has been “Breathed upon” by the clever specialist technicians at JE Motor Works, and is now thought to develop around, a far more impressive, 180 bhp, providing a noticeable improvement in performance. Transmission is via a 6 speed GFT MT-82 manual gearbox, driving all 4 wheels, with diff-lock., while braking is effectively controlled by ventilated front discs/pads all round. The Defenders off-road capabilities are legendary; little can be added here, but with approach and departure angles of 47%, and a towing capacity of 3,500 kgs, the Defender has many peers, but few rivals. We strongly advise an early viewing.
