Beautifully finished in factory special order Carbon Black, the 12C retains all the original visual impact present at first launch. Radiating a deep and lustrous shine, the bodywork has been professionally protected with SiO2 / Bead-Boost and displays only extremely minimal evidence of its road use. Achingly exciting from any angle, with sleek flowing lines, the side profiles are dominated by vast, twin crescent shape air intakes, the rear affording tempting glimpses of the power unit and engine compartment via the hinged clear glass cover. Twin exhausts exit directly from the rear below the carbon fibre Aero rear wing, which incorporates a high-level LED brake light, while scissor opening dihedral doors, first seen on the iconic F1, still remain a showstopper. The sculpted rear diffuser has been coloured in an optional shade of Dark Palladium and contrasts the body perfectly. Clear lens LED’s continue around the vehicle, all in perfect order.

The “Drive Zone” is a model of high quality, total design application, all materials and instruments focussed with the driver and functionality in mind. This example benefits from the extended use of carbon fibre, Alcantara and black leather, which has been further enhanced and highlighted by a contrasting Harissa Red stitching. Seats and upholstery remain in virtually as new condition. Indulgent yet still supportive, heated and electrically adjustable with memory function. The seating position is excellent with considerable visibility which would be hard to rival in this sector. All on-board equipment operates totally as it should, and following recent routine maintenance by McLaren, the A/C now delivers suitably chilled air upon demand.

Only produced for 3 years from 2011 – 2014, and designed by Frank Stephenson the MP4 – 12C was McLarens first road car since the iconic F1 back in 1998 and much in demand, with an 18 month waiting list for new owners. With a name derived from Marlboro McLarens original F1 chassis designation number and the amalgamation of Ron Dennis’s “McLaren Project 4” organisation, the 12C pioneered advanced and unique design solutions and applying them, for the first time, to a public road focussed Supercar, with legendary results. A rigid carbon fibre mono-cell chassis, manufactured by Carbo Tech in Saltzberg Austria, and weighing just 75Kgs, was incorporated. F1 designed Brake-steer system, manages traction, minimises mid-corner under-steer and controls over-steer when cornering at higher speeds. By factoring entry speed and steering angle to calculate the perfect cornering trajectory, and applying the exact correct amount of braking required to the rear inside wheels. Effectively, pivoting the driver around the required correct line. McLarens Pro-Active Chassis Control System was developed in collaboration with Cambridge University, and dramatically aids ride comfort, producing individual damping effects to each wheel as required, resulting in a compliant, usable Supercar you would happily drive on a daily basis. Power is provided by the rear mid-mounted 3799cc, quad overhead cam, twin turbocharged, flat cranked, dry sum V8 driving the rear wheels. The M838Twas developed and built in the U.K. by Ricardo. Initially producing 592 bhp @ 7000rpm, often electronically up rated to develop 616 bhp @ 7500 rpm and 443 lbft of torque. Performance is shattering, claimed 0-62 mph in just 3.1 secs, 0-100mph in 6.1 secs, 0-125 only takes 8.8 secs, on towards a McLaren claimed top speed of 207 mph, although figures in excess of 218mph+ are often muted. Power delivery is extremely flexible, although the 12C red lines at 8500 rpm, 80% of the torque is available at only 2000 rpm, remarkable. Transmission is provided by a Graziano built 7 speed dual clutch gearbox dubbed the “SSG” Seamless Shift Gearbox”, the F1 style pre-select system performs instantaneously gear changes. All independent coil sprung double wishbone suspension, and aluminium sub-frames front and rear, plus the aerodynamic dihedral doors, help reduce weight down to just 1301 kgs dry/1474kgs kerb weight, and return acceptable mpg figures of a claimed 30 mpg.  Energy efficient to, it is claimed the 12C emit’s less CO2 per Horse Power developed than a Toyota Prius Hybrid. Braking is achieved via steel disc and callipers all round, which, McLaren themselves admit, provide a shorter stopping distance than carbon ceramic, 62 mph – 0 achieved in just 101 ft.

On 10/07/2011 the 12C posted the second fastest lap of the Top Gear Track, where it had previously been extensively tested, achieving a time of 1m.16.2secs, then went on to Lap the Nurburgring in 7m 28secs. The McLaren was also voted “Car of the year” as best Supercar in 2012 at the Middle East Motor awards.

Now being fully appreciated and recognised for just how special and innovative they are, values of good 12C’s are definitely on the increase, suggesting this might be an excellent time to buy.
