PORSCHE 912

SUPERB EXAMPLE // MAJOR RESOTRATION // OVER £15K INVESTED IN ENGINE & TRANSMISSION ALONE!

SPECIAL FOREWORD

This original 1968, Irish Green Porsche 912 was imported in 2015 from the USA and has since undergone a comprehensive body and mechanical restoration. The body was stripped back to bare metal and painted by an established classic car restoration company, and pleasingly, the only serious panel repairs needed were the floor pans which were completely replaced as the vendor was absolutely clear that he did not want any patching or plating. All the spot welds were drilled and the floors fitted properly. The rest of the car is original so the panel fit is superb.

Naturally, during the body restoration both the engine and gearbox were removed. The gearbox was fully rebuilt with new synchros on all gears and rings and the engine was subject to a top-end rebuild with the valves reground and new springs etc. All the complex tin ware associated with the 911/912 was stripped and repainted and has since been removed to improve the engine aesthetics. The seats, headlining and door cards are all original and in excellent condition.

 Additional work carried out during the restoration includes;

  • Gear stick and pedal assembly stripped, blasted and repainted.
  • All brake calipers rebuilt and painted. New master cylinder.
  • Dashboard has been professionally recovered and fitted with new dash top panel and the dials refurbished.
  • All new rubber seals, aluminium trim parts and windscreen
  • Brand new tyres all round, shock absorbers, all mounts, lights and much more.

This is a matching numbers car, and has the desirable 5-speed gear box, a five dial dashboard, factory polished Fuchs, and comes with the original handbooks, plus surprisingly, some original history from America. So long the forgotten sibling, 912s are now seen as incredibly ‘cool’, particularly in the case of this example which echoes the purity of early 911s. So much work has gone into this lovely Irish Green car to bring it to the condition which you see here. The Porsche is UK registered with a long MOT and ready to be enjoyed, or just admired.

EQUIPMENT

Talbot drivers door mirror, cigarette lighter, opening rear quarter-lights, Blaupunkt radio, 5 dial dashboard, original sun visors, chrome exhaust tip, original polished chrome Fuchs wheels, front seat belts, folding rear seats, jack and spare wheel, detailed engine bay, sill heater flaps.

EXTERIOR

The 912 is a two door, fixed head coupe. Our car is beautifully finished in the original nostalgic period shade of Irish Green, highlighted and enhanced by gleaming chrome details and amber headlights. Very evocative of the European Porsches of the mid 1960’s/70’s. Panel fit is excellent and the 912 remains in a top class condition. All glass and lenses are near perfect, with lovely rear quarter lights which operates exactly as they should.

INTERIOR

All surfaces are in good order; carpets door cards and headlining appear unmarked, the drivers footwell has been protected by rubber matting. The familiar five dial instrument display was included in the restoration so presents perfectly, while the dashboard and top cover are thankfully crack and sun damage free. Seats remain comfortable and supportive having been restored, while retaining the correct and desirable degree of patination.

WHEELS AND TYRES

Five blade polished 15” inch Fuchs wheels, all in a very good condition.

Tyres are all excellent with plenty of remaining tread, matching Continental Contact’s.

THE DRIVE & ENGINE

The Porsche 912 is powered by a naturally aspirated air-cooled flat 4 cylinder, 1582cc with 2 valves per cylinder. Developing 90bhp @ 5800rpm, with 133 Nm of torque @ 3500rpm driving the rear wheels via a 5 speed, manual gearbox. Although modest by today’s standards, the lightweight construction, just 968 kgs, was a significant reduction of 113+kgs over it’s 6 cylinder sibling, with twin carbs, superb steering and balance, the 912 proved a major success for Porsche, out selling the 911 by 2/1 during periods in the late 60’s. The 4 cylinder attracted great interest from competitive drivers and their teams, successfully competing in the 1967 European Championship.

Our example has been lavished with diligent care and investment with much of the more recent works carried out by Max Levell’s 912 Revival Cars. Established back in 1999 and specialising specifically in the maintenance of the 912 model, now operating from two workshops opposite Heathrow Terminal 5 London.  Investment since 2016 has totalled in excess of £16k. With only two U.K. owners, the 912 is supplied with original handbooks, owner’s record, long MOT and Porsche Certificate of Authentication. Stylish and elegant, onlookers will surely be “Green” with envy!
